Saturday. 17. Our third and final day and night in Worle. I go on a drive with Hazel to get her Aunt Brenda in Bristol for a drive. We spent the day with Brenda and it was lovely. Hazel drove us to Cheddar Gorge by request of Brenda. We tried to go further to Weston-Supermare, but the traffic was too thick to get around because of a car race happening there. We finally got back around to a pub for a late lunch and then back to Bristol with Auntie Brenda.
Sunday. 18. Today we checked out of our Worle house. We went to church in Bristol with Auntie Brenda. Brenda was treating us to lunch after morning worship. Also going with us was Hazel’s nephew Joseph. Lunch service was extremely slow and Brenda apologized a few times for it taking so long and all of us being hungry. We enjoyed visiting. After lunch we all took Brenda back to her place and then Hazel continued on to Swanage. It was a good 2-3 hours on down the road. We did arrive before sunset. By the time we unloaded the car and walked to the sea and back, we had settled on a dinner. Darrell went to a pub for take-away soup and I made some grilled cheese sandwiches. We were low on groceries and planned to go out for breakfast and groceries in the morning.

Monday. 19. Walking to town for breakfast and shopping was so enjoyable. I love getting up and going out. We’re here until Friday morning.
Tuesday. 20.-Wednesday. 21.-Thursday. 22. We enjoyed walks in and around Swanage. The coastal path going in both directions have sights to see including Durlston Castle, Old Harry’s Rocks, and a short drive to Corfe Castle and town. I got to eat at my favorite restaurant Pig Too a couple of times. We cooked at our house a few times. Hazel’s brother Paul and his wife Debbie came for dinner one night. Darrell was teaching the Tuesday night e-class that we are usually seeing Hazel, Paul and Debbie through the computer. We drank coffees and teas with cake together, saw some storms coming in and raining cold outside. We enjoyed hearing Hazel describe her last visit here when she was 11 years old on a school trip. I read part of a book on Dorset needlework decorative stitching that was at our airbnb. I celebrated my birthday with verbal reminds often! Darrell and I bought cake 2-3 times and then I didn’t want anymore for a while, besides his breakfast pancakes that I am a daily devotee of for now.
Friday. 23. We checked out of our nice Swanage stay today. Hazel drove us to Southampton and to our hotel. We said our goodbyes with hugs as she drove on toward her house another hour or two northerly into Kent. It was a windy day with some scattered storms. As we came into the hotel to check our bags, they went ahead and checked us into our room. Once we settled in, we found a lunch place to walk to. After lunch we walked about 15 minutes to the shopping mall to get a couple of items. At dinner time we found a grilled chicken restaurant that was a 10 minute walk from our hotel and had really delicious Portuguese food.
Nomad Notes.
Through this time together with Hazel, I thoroughly enjoyed her company. We decided that we are still friends! Lol. We are so glad that she invited herself to go along with us and pointed us toward Swanage with the nature and history there.
We first met Hazel in July of 2022 when we went to the Tunbridge Wells church for Sunday worship. Her mother, Margaret was there greeting us along with all of the other members we met and worshiped with. Margaret, Hazel and also Gill had carried on a tradition to invite visitors for lunch to the family home about a block away. We agreed and enjoyed lunch together. From that first meeting we were treated as family and like every stranger who came to worship with the group there. We were so blessed and enjoyed many times together with these women and other members who visited with us. We enjoyed these christians here so much that we wanted to go back again and again. We joined their e-study on Tuesdays.
I told Hazel that I hope she comes to the US sometime and we can do a road trip together because we don’t have a house, but we can drive, visit church friends, and tour. She’s totally up for it and already has some friends in the US to keep her and tour her around. The good thing is that we got on her list!
