Friday. 13. Check out and drive to Hot Springs, Arkansas. At 10am, we stop at friends Pat and Ed Brand. Pat fixed us a big meal that we all enjoyed. She always says she loves to cook. Today she served: ham, scrambled eggs, hash browns, homemade biscuits, butter, sausage gravy, fresh fruit, and orange rolls. There could be something that I left out! We were offered yogurt, but declined. We ate and visited. Ed travels so often, it was a surprise that he was at home. They are traveling to Rome next week. We are glad that we stopped.

Darrell’s Surprising Eye Change: Tuesday was Darrell’s eye treatment. A little more than a year ago Darrell had been diagnosed with a blood clot in one of his eyes. His vision had changed and when we got back from Brazil in early 2025, he went into his retina doctor for an eval. He had a blood clot that had damaged his eye and his vision. The doctor began the current and fairly new treatment of aggressive shots into the eye of an anti-inflammatory. The shots were to be spaced every 5 weeks. That continued with very little change in his eye. In August 2025, the doctor switched his injection to a steroid. The steroid had a longer lapse between shots. It seemed to make some better improvement in his condition, but nothing earth-shattering. At Darrell’s Feb 2026 appointment, the doctor told him that his blood clot was gone. He had the nurse take a picture to document it. He smiled a little, but said very little. From Darrell’s side, he had begun taking an eye vitamin a month before this appointment. His next appointment is in early May. Stay tuned for updates to this unusual change. The blood clot dissolving isn’t a common occurrence because we can’t seem to find anything about this sort of thing with the literature on his condition. He ordered more of this vitamin and I plan to take it too. I’d like improved vision and circulation in my eyes! To be continued.

About Ed and Pat Brand. Ed and Darrell traveled together on a preaching trip to Kenya two times. On their second trip, I went. While I was traveling with them in Kenya, my place was sitting between Ed and another man in the backseat of our car. Ed and Pat are in their 80’s! Ed has traveled the world for about 15-20 years, mainly meeting up with preachers who he has helped to teach one on one. Since going to Kenya with Darrell, he has traveled to many African countries now. He has gone multiple times to many of these countries and has added speaking to groups along with conducting private studies with preachers and teachers.
