Saturday. 25. Today we drove about 6 hours from Long Beach, Mississippi to Madison, Alabama. We have an 11 night stay at a one bedroom apartment next to Toyota Field. Our wake up in Long Beach began with an abrupt storm that came with tornado warnings, high winds and a lot of lightning. We followed the current weather news on the tv while we fixed our breakfast and finished packing. We were able to pack the truck between storms. We checked out and were on the road by 8:30am. Once we left the stormy coast and headed northwards, we had clear weather the rest of the day.
When we got close to Madison, we took a few minutes to go see Eric, Erin, Owen and Esther. We visited for a little while before heading on to our apartment which was closer to Huntsville and a further 20 minute drive. I realized that when we got to this airbnb, it’s not what I really wanted, but it will do for our short stay. It made me get much clearer on what accommodations that I want to rent next time we are here. A little more room and closer to Eric’s family will make me happier! Lol.
We got moved into our apartment by carrying and rolling our luggage and crates across a parking lot and into a breezeway with an elevator to the second floor and down one door to our apartment. It was 2-3 loads for each of us. Darrell usually does more hauling than I do.
We got settled quickly and have enjoyed our apartment for this week. We cook our favorite breakfast about every day. I prepared black beans in our instapot and also baked some pork tenderloin for our breakfast meat. Darrell makes pancakes that last for three days at a time. We keep Fage yogurt on hand to snack on as well as our favorite salted caramel Kind Bars. We also have a loaf of Dave’s seeded bread, red or yellow label, and a dozen or more eggs. Besides this we often cook a pound of 93% lean ground beef that will serve us for two meals of either tacos or chili with our beans.
During this week we went to church where we usually attend “Capshaw at Harvest church of Christ” while they are building a new place close to Capshaw and Sanderson Roads. We caught up with many friends there and enjoyed our worship and study times together. Our friend Jackie told me she was sick with the flu, in bed, without energy and can’t eat or drink since this past Friday. On Tuesday, Jackie texted me at 7am that she was taking an ambulance to Huntsville Hospital. We kept in contact and I arrived at the emergency room about 8:30am. She was resting and going through a bunch of testing and information gathering. She didn’t have any apparent flu symptoms. Turns out it wasn’t the flu. Her meds had gotten out of balance and maybe some other triggers had set her heart into Afib which resulted in her flu-like symptoms. By noon, she was in ICU and looked well in her face and breathing and everything. Later they moved her to a regular room because she improved so quickly. She went back home after only 2 nights in the hospital.
We’ve enjoyed visiting with the grandkids, Owen and Esther at their house, at a playground, and almost every day. We’ve met up with friends and made phone calls, been out to eat with friends and family. I got an art gift in the mail from my artist friend Dawn Rosengren. I made photo books for all of our grands. I easily compiled the books on Walgreen’s photo and dropshipped the books directly. It will be interesting to see how fast or how slow the one book and other items will get to Moscow to Jeremy’s family at the embassy. The mail all goes to Virginia and then gets sent from there. We only have the Virginia address.
We planned to store our truck items at Samuel's house next Tuesday. We are taking our truck to Jackie’s barn on Wednesday morning on our way to the airport. Our friend Melanie is driving us to the airport from Jackies.
The weather this week has turned cool between 55-70 degrees, which is really nice for Alabama.
I didn’t think that I had enough time to visit and take care of all of my needs, but I was wrong. I was able to get new glasses and sunglasses made in 1 hour! I also got my hair cut. All of the visiting and sharing with family and friends has happened and I am full and content, thanking God for the peace and care in and through my life.

Thoughts and contemplations:
I’m happy with our nomad life. We experience this unusual way of living together and we try to find the right words to describe ourselves and to understand what we are doing and how we are doing it. It’s not easy and at the same time it is easy for us. The discomforts that come will come whether we are living in one place or moving to a variety of places.
I haven’t slept quite as well at this apartment and I am looking forward to some better sleep during our summer travels. Better sleep on a cruise ship that is comfy and rocks on the water. Better sleep in Alaska with quietness because of the wide open spaces and cooler air flow.
I have gone through all of my things while packing for Alaska. I have taken out many clothing items to donate because I’m done with them. I have some old eye glasses to get rid of.
I gave Owen and Esther a kid’s Alaska picture book. I bought it in Alaska last summer during our cruise. That was before I knew that we would be spending the whole summer this year in Alaska. I read the book to the two of them several times. But this week I put an inscription on the inside cover and left it at their house for them. The next day we went over to their house for a visit and Owen told me he was giving back the book and he didn’t want it. I sat down and looked at him and listened. I then said that maybe he’s saying that about the book because he doesn’t want us to go away. His dad said, ‘yes, that’s it.’ He and Esther asked me again when we were going to Alaska. In 5 days. Next Wednesday. I’ll miss you too.
