Saturday. 11. We have 5 days left in Brasilia for this month long visit. We are scheduled to leave on Wednesday night at 11pm. This flight schedule is a challenge for me because I’m normally falling asleep at 9:30pm. I’ll have to do some perception gymnastics to get myself to the airport and stay engaged with check-in and boarding. We are both hoping that our flight leaves as scheduled. Our current experience with Brazil has been delayed flights and schedule changes. Oh well. Hoping for good and safe flying experiences always!
Today was our 40 minute hard workout of DDP Yoga. Darrell woke up earlier than me and was quiet with me until I woke up about 6:20am. This is a late sleep-in for me. I also slept late yesterday morning. Sometimes it’s difficult to sleep later when we share a room and a bathroom. We try to be quiet and let the other sleep as long as possible. It’s a trade off of living in close quarters together. In this bedroom at Jeremy’s apartment we have a room air conditioning unit that gives a quiet background noise and also black out curtains. There is a small light on the air conditioner and we have both been sleeping with an eye mask. Darrell usually sleeps with ear plugs to keep his environment quieter. He has been doing this for years with my increased snoring. This morning and most days here he says that I have light snoring especially in the early morning hours. Some days are better and some are worse. All of this sort of information I have passed on to my sleep doctor for my sleep assessment coming in a couple of weeks. Still, I have improved my breathing and the volume of my snoring with my breathing exercises. My pelvic floor exercises have allowed me more hours of sleep without needing to wake up for a trip to the bathroom.
Quinn has been getting better each and every day from his Monday adenoid surgery. Both Darrell and I took turns to play with him in his room with his blocks. He’s excited today to be going to a going away party for an Embassy family and playing with one of his friends. Jeremy made sourdough pancakes for breakfast! Yum! And later he made sourdough bread that we usually slice for toast at breakfast. Around lunch time, Jeremy, Andrea and Quinn leave for their party. Darrell and I finished our lunch of Salad with peanut Asian dressing and soft boiled eggs. Darrell goes for a nap while I push through to stay awake, do laundry, type on the computer and also do my 15 minutes of pelvic floor exercises. We plan to go out for a walk once or twice today. Today has lots of sunshine and it’s in the 70’s. It’s quite beautiful and common for Brasilia.

Sunday. 12. We had our last visit to the church of Christ in Brasilia. A couple of people who speak English let us know that they appreciated our attendance with them. Since last Sunday I began using google translate app more. It doesn’t work great, but it was really better than no translation. Jeremy had been filling me in during the sermon, but he was able to stop when I used the translate app. I could also follow the prayers better on the translation app. We met up with Andrea and Quinn at the pedestrian zone for lunch. We decided on an outdoor steak and chicken grill. They served a full plate lunch for less than $6 US dollars.

Waiting in Brasilia, Brazil Airport for Our 11pm Flight to Miami, Florida. |
Monday. 13. I got my new glasses this week. I got two pairs and one has a magnetic sunglass piece to use.
Tuesday. 14. Basically playing with Quinn and enjoying family time usually centered around breakfast and dinner.
Wednesday. 15. Today our flight is scheduled to leave Brasilia at 11pm. We have the full day to do laundry, pack, play, rest and after dinner shower and get to the airport. Jeremy drove us to the airport. It took us a little extra time to find what line to go to. This is because we have to find the people who speak English and get them to direct us. The lines and organization of the flights here is different from the US organization at airports. The line for our flight is opened for checking in luggage at a certain time. We show up at the earliest possible time and are about the 20th people in line. Then the agents begin to show up to check in luggage. There is one and then two agents. They are spending what seems like 15 minutes per group to get luggage checked. We are in one of two lines and about the 5th group back. Finally a couple of more agents come to work. About another half hour and we are finally checking our luggage in and off to go through security and then to our departure gate. We have plenty of time. As we sit in the gate area with the other passengers we have to turn on google translate to try to understand the announcements. We manage ok. Lol. But it was also odd that Darrell and I are seated next to each other but we had different boarding group numbers. Oh well. Get on the plane and go to sleep. The flight is full. Darrell goes right to sleep. I am still awake and then I smell food. The flight attendants are serving a full dinner meal at about 1 am! I looked at the food, but I wasn’t hungry and passed on the offer. I finally went to sleep.

Thursday. 16. We arrived into Miami, Florida about 4:30 am Eastern time. Friday. 17. Nomad Notes. Our computer is dodgy to work on since both hinge casings on the foldable screen have crumbled. Darrell has the computer set up on a small table with a shoe behind the screen. I’m quite excited about getting our new computers in a couple of weeks in Alabama at Eric’s house. Today January 29th, I am typing this entry on my new Google notebook! I’m enjoying it so far. It reminds me of a big phone the way it connects and uses apps. Now there is no more sharing a combined pc, and I am again responsible for my own pc during travel.
