#82 May 28, 2022 Nomad Diary: Begin 32 Days Slow Travel to England. Sea Day. Farewell to US Until December.
Saturday Activities: Our 2nd full sea day. Arise around 5:30 am. Go to the gym and get yoga mats and do one of our DDP Yoga routines.
About 7am we go to the buffet for breakfast. At 8am we arrive at a passenger led Bible study. Darrell is leading a group on sea days as we read the gospel of John together.
10 am is a port lecture for Halifax on Monday.
Then we go back to the buffet for a light lunch..
We visit with Tricia and Gary. The temperature is dropping as we head north in the Atlantic. It's rainy and we take a nap.
5:20 pm we go to the dining room and get seated randomly at a group table. We enjoy the visit and meeting new people. After dinner about 7pm, we often go to a live show in the theater, but this day we opt to go to the hot tub for a soak. After this, we go back to our cabin to rest and read. I see a rainbow with two sides, from our cabin. I go to the upper deck and get a full 180 rainbow picture!Like a story book! I turned to look the other direction and captured a most beautiful sunset!
Just wow!!
Week's Highlights:
Phone call with grandson Quinn, and his parents Andrea and Jeremy
Cool Spiny Orb Weaver Spider on Janice's porch.
Monday.
With travel friends Gary and Tricia, we go on a birthday excursion for Tricia as Ft Lauderdale tourists. We took the water taxi that is like a hop on hop off bus. At stop 6 we had a nice lunch next to Ft Lauderdale Beach.
Virtual call with grandson Owen and his parents Eric and Erin. Our grandsons bring us joy! We are so thankful for our kids being good parents and loving their children now.
Tuesday. Today is our pre-cruise covid test at a Walgreens drugstore. We have done most of our to-do list checking off essential items. We need cash and small bills for tips, another to-do.
Wednesday. Met up with Tricia and Gary for a visit, lunch and to move them from one hotel to another. We went to Whole Foods on SE 17th St to enjoy the free parking garage and the self-serve food bar. The store is amazing! There were about 20 pots of soup to choose from. It's the largest Whole Foods I've ever been to.
Janice, our friend, texted me that she planned dinner which was wonderful!
Thursday. We get last minute errands completed including turning our car into it's 6 month storage. Then we walk 2 miles to the cruiseport because it felt good to walk! We process onto the ship, and here we are leaving the US this evening with our return to this port scheduled for December 2nd.
Friday. Our first full sea day. Getting used to the ship. First Bible class meet up. Darrell gets to lead a nice group of people. I discover an acquaintance from Alabama is on this ship with us!! It's sweet to find a familiar former friend! She's here with one of her daughters and two grandchildren all of whom we have known and gone to church with in our past.
Nomad Notes: I spent some time while here repacking my suitcase. I purchased waterproof pants and a jacket for the cold wet weather we expect on our travels to Iceland, Shetland Islands and Norway. I'm putting away my extreme summer clothes to store in our truck, inside my clothes trunk.
Tricia and Gary have taught us what they can about traveling for months at a time including apps they know that are handy in Europe for trains and ferries, etc.
