#73 March 26, 2022 Nomad Diary. Early Birthday Celebrations. Our Last Saturday in Alabama Until Our Return in December 2022.

A Crane near the Tennessee River and Point Mallard in Decatur,  Alabama.
Colorful fruit stand in Priceville, Alabama at the Wavaho Gas station. Baskets of green tomatoes are popular here because a local favorite is fried green tomatoes.
A vintage looking gas station we stopped at. In the background there is a sign on a building that reads Thrift Store. (A place for used items to be resold)

Week's Highlights

Loving this virtual call with grandson Quinn.
A visit with grandson Owen.  I've been spending some hours sitting with Owen this week. One of my greatest pleasures!
Walking around the neighborhood with Eric and Owen.

Saturday Activities

A farewell lunch and early birthday celebrations with sons Samuel, Eric and Eric's wife and son.

4th and youngest son Samuel (birthday 4.3.1993),  Darrell holding Owen, and me.

Our oldest son Eric (birthday 4.16.1985), wife Erin and 6 month old Owen.

Chicken Ramen at Aki Japanese restaurant

Nomad Notes

We try out local restaurants and find walks wherever we are.  The weight I gained last week is coming off. We are taking advantage of our days at the airbnb to cook some. We enjoy cooking together and eating well. One challenge is to not buy too many groceries. We have really streamlined our grocery purchases and what we each eat and what we eat together. We have about 10 days until we reach Ft Lauderdale and put our car into storage for our trip to Washington and San Francisco,  April 6-May 14th! Very excited for our journey.

Swordfish, kasha with mushrooms, walnuts and feta, oven roasted broccoli, carrots, turnip and onion. So delicious! Darrell made the kasha and I got everything else together all in 30 minutes!

A traditional Alabama breakfast at Libby's Catfish Diner. Grits in the small bowl and a homemade biscuit, crisp bacon, eggs, coffee.
This diner between Priceville and Somerville, Alabama has two signs in front on this side of the parking lot. The closest sign is for a Baptist church and is funny and confusing. The other sign, farther away is for this diner!
Walking through Point Mallard campground. Nice for an RV.
Nice US campground,  Point Mallard in Decatur,  Alabama.
