#68 February 19, 2022 Moving 10 miles Between Airbnb's.
Our Saturday morning breakfast after DDP yoga is all cleaned up between 7-8am. Darrell made Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Pancakes with his special touches! Dark coffee. Real maple syrup. Our selected toppings, and bacon.
We have been at this roomy 3 bedroom, 2 bath house in Meridianville, Alabama for a full 4 weeks! Today is moving day. This routine of moving is getting easier for us, and we are so glad that we have been continuing to downsize and to practice our Nomad way of living since September 2020.
Today we have some issues that we are dealing with. Okay, let's get real. Life happens. Darrell has had a stuffy nose, congestion and lethargy for a few days now. I have not gotten these symptoms from him. I called my colonoscopy doctor's office to make sure that I could still keep my appointment on Monday as Darrell is my driver who must wait in the waiting room for me. They assured me that as long as neither of us has a fever then we are ok for Monday.
So on Friday I began my 3 days of 'prep'. Friday and Saturday are called 'low res' diet days. Basically I can eat anything that doesn't have fiber in it. This is very different from how I normally eat with loads of fresh veggies, fruits and other fibrous edibles. Thankfully there are a few veggies allowed.
On Friday I began corraling our crates and items from within our month-long dwelling. I had plenty of time for resting, doing my daily duolingo Spanish, organizing my clothing, etc. I am really good at making piles of like things while Darrell is really good at fitting oddly shaped items into these squarish boxes similar to tetris.
Our packing crates are easier to see up on this roomy dining table.
Here is what's left in our fridge. The top door shelf has a bunch of bottles that came with and stay with the airbnb. I fit everything here into two coolers ready to load into our truck's backseat.
Here's a pile of my items by the door. My red suitcase. My blue computer bag. A bag of vitamins. A bag with colonoscopy prep stuff. Two fancy backpacks going to friends. My hulahoop. Two black trunks that need Darrell's packing tetris mojo.
Some of Darrell's 'junk drawer' items that he has already been busy cleaning up, an almost empty suitcase, and a work backpack.
Darrell's clothes that he still has to pack. I did mine on Friday while he was working. He is seriously faster at packing than I am. Each of us have had to process and learn what our individual, current needs are versus the value of holding onto an item for 'someday'.
Here is the picture of one black trunk and our crates loaded with a tarp over them (because our truck cover is not water tight). My hulahoop in its place, and our yoga mats on the side. You can only see 4 crates as the other 4 are behind these and under the tarp.
Our check out time is 11am. We finished earlier with loads of rest time and a weekly call to Darrell's Mom. We leave at 10:30 headed for our choice of lunch place today: Thai Elephant in Madison. Our airbnb in Huntsville has a 3pm check-in. With Darrell's cold we are just going to hang out together and not visit family today.
We both ordered soups at Thai Elephant. The place was formerly a Vietnamese restaurant and is now very different. We liked our soups, but we agreed that it was not our favorite versions of Thai soups. They also had very little selections on their current lunch menu. The place looks much improved from what it was. We also had a pot of Jasmine tea, and we were floating out of there! We went with our two cars to a couple of stores to look for some luggage ideas, and then to a grocery on our way to our 3pm check-in.
We arrived to our 1 bedroom selected airbnb. The day is sunny and chilly. Really nice day for moving out and moving in!
The inside of this place is just like the pictures. It's very cozy and has lovely decorations! I love it.
The living room looking from the bedroom.
Looking back toward the bedroom and pantry and front doors to the right.
Our crates stacked by the front door.
Our back patio space will be nice on a warmer day.
Well-stocked bathroom albeit tiny room.
Bathroom shelf.
Bathroom again with robes on the door for use.
View across the street is a wide open field. Really nice neighborhood-- which I was a little concerned about when we booked it.
Looking to the left toward Pratt Ave and Waffle House and my car parking.
An alley on the right wall of our little house. It leads to Olde Towne Coffee Shoppe where they roast their coffees and have a good looking sandwich, etc menu for when I am eating again!
Our airbnb host left us a frozen pizza which we glorified and ate for dinner! We rarely pick pizza, but I love it when it is picked for me! lol. I made a plate of herby olive oil dip.
That's our Saturday with loads of pictures. I know two couples who live within a couple of blocks of this airbnb. I hope to have some meet ups while we are in this neighborhood until our next moving day on March 4th.
Our current favorite show has been International House Hunters. We like the simple overviews of the area and the stories of why people are moving there. We are learning some 'simple' things for places that we expect to visit on our travels.
