#51 October 23, 2021 Friday, My 57th Birthday. Saturday Babysitting Grandson Owen. Sunday Lunch with Glenn and Phoebe.
As I write this it is Friday, October 22nd. This is my 57th birthday. I consider with amazement my life and the joy that I have had on most of my birthdays. The question is how to celebrate? Darrell asked me, "What do you want for your birthday?" I had 2-3 top choices on my list and this one won: To eat a nice dinner out with our kids. I got my wish. Wes and Samuel met us for dinner at Hildegard's German Restaurant. When it was time for dessert, I had a plan to get a piece of cake. The other 3 with me started with a 'no' to dessert, then one by one relented. We each ordered a different dessert and completed my birthday party dinner.
Darrell and Owen, age 5 weeks.Since Owen is so small, he is staying home with his parents! They want to get out and have asked us to babysit on Saturday. So we are going over there to enjoy Owen and give them a needed break. We arrived around 11am to Eric and Erin's house with our lunches packed in a cooler. Owen had just eaten so he was content for a while. He was alert and interactive for a while, then I burrito-wrapped him and he went to sleep for a while. Once he woke up, we kept him busy for a while and then he took his bottle. Even though he's only had about 3 bottles in his whole 5 weeks of life, he knew what to do and didn't complain. Holding our grandson is such a joy! It is even more enjoyable knowing that his parents are taking such great care of him. There is so much love in this family, and they bless us too! I got several Happy Birthday phone calls, Facebook greetings, gifts in the mail from my sisters, and a birthday song fro Jeremy and Andrea with Quinn helping out. All amazing love that I soaked into my heart!

Sunday we attend church and then afterward we are going a few miles further to Glenn and Phoebe's (Darrell's brother and wife) house in Athens as their guests for lunch. Phoebe is a lovely and generous hostess. She always cooks something that is delicious, and sometimes a bit different coming from her Filipino culture and Chinese cooking traditions mixed with being in the US for many years now. So on this Sunday, Phoebe prepared grilled pork chops with her personal dry rub, a salad with lettuce, cherry tomatoes and sliced green grapes, oven cooked butternut squash and cauliflower rice mixed with chopped carrots and onions. There is always dessert served and this day was apples with cinnamon wrapped in crescent rolls and topped with a sweet buttery sauce. She serves coffee, tea and water. We eat at the dining room table with comfortable table settings.
After lunch, we all drove over to visit Eric, Erin and Owen. This was the first opportunity for Glenn and Phoebe to meet their newest great nephew. It was a sweet visit, as Glenn's big arms gently swaddled the baby. Owen settled in looking comfy and secure.
The weather is sunny and cool in the 60's-70'. The leaves are beginning to turn with the weather. We've had our window open a couple of nights because we love sleeping with the fresh air and it is so immensly quiet here.
Hiking Saturday in South Huntsville, AlabamaThis week I thought of how we sold our house just 13 months ago. Do I miss my house? No. I don't miss my house. I slightly miss my lovely bathroom that Darrell built, and my comfortable soaking tub that I used regularly. I enjoyed our time at our house, but I don't miss it. The cash from our house is invested and growing for us. Our life, as it is now, has my attention. I'm enjoying our current way of living and working on our plan for living outside of the US for 6 months in 2022.
