#46 September 18, 2021 Birth of Grandson, Owen Miles
Our oldest son, Eric and his wife Erin welcomed their child Owen Miles on Tuesday afternoon, September 14th. Because of the covid restrictions, we didn't go to visit them at the hospital. We chose to wait to see the baby a couple of days later at their house.
Our second son celebrated his 35th birthday also on September 14th. Darrell told him he can easily remember Owen's birthday! We met Wes at a local restaurant, Pain E Vino, downtown at Big Springs park for dinner on the patio. Samuel, our youngest son also joined our celebration. The weather was perfect for outdoor dining. The food and the service were really good too.
It was an amazing and joyful time to hold Owen at 2 days old, our 2nd grandson. On Friday, I stopped by Eric's house to help with a couple of things and cook some chili to have for a convenient meal. Erin's parents came from Birmingham and stayed the night into the next day to meet Owen.
On Saturday, Darrell and I "slept" in until maybe 6am. I didn't used to like getting up early, but in the last few years I have embraced this quiet early morning time. Having an agreement with Darrell to do a ddp yoga exercise routine, makes my wake up more enjoyable getting ready for my day. Darrell made gluten free pancakes we had with fresh berries and maple syrup. Delicious!
We met Samuel for lunch at Moe's BBQ in Providence, on the line between Madison and Huntsville, Alabama. We hadn't eaten there in a while so we had comments about the food now. It was good, we all agreed. Darrell got a side item of Pork Chili. It was about a cupful, and he couldn't eat it so we took it with us. As we have been eating out a lot more during this year of being 'Nomads', we have gotten into the habit of taking home left-overs from restaurants.
I added the Pork Chili into my dinner soup that I made in our Insta-Pot pressure cooker. I used dried lentils that had some flavor added into the mix. I also added in chicken broth, a cup of cubed turnip, and a bunch of beet greens. I pressure cooked it for 30 minutes and used quick release. It was really delicious! We both thought about getting the side of Pork Chili in the future to make this soup again.
We took an afternoon walk at Indian Creek. It was lovely and sweaty too! A bonus to our Nomad life is that we have kept our Sirius Radio subscription. There has been a special program on all weekend on the channel: "60's". We've been enjoying the instrumentals from this decade of music. Many of these are familiar to us and it makes for a nice background to our otherwise quiet life.
It started raining with storms coming through on and off that will be continuing for more than a day. At night after dinner, I watched some TV programs. One on Disney+ about archeology in China. I learn so much about the world this way. The other programs that Darrell and I are currently watching are on Discovery+ and are property renovation programs. We have several reasons why we like to watch these programs and I will not list our reasons now.
It was a nice day, and we are well and continuing to practice our life as Nomads and short-term renters living with just a few items that fit into our truck and our car.
