500 Saturdays: Nomad Diary

  In Decatur, Alabama, walking around Wheeler Wildlife Refuge and spotting migrating Sandhill Cranes and other water birds. An egret in Decatur, Alabama. Walking in the woods in Decatur, Alabama Saturday. 7. We spent the morning at our airbnb house as we do most mornings. We so enjoy waking up without an alarm, but still early. We exercise before breakfast on most days. We cook breakfast together and enjoy our meal with strong brewed coffee. We went to visit Eric, Erin and Owen in the afternoon. We also took a walk in the woods at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge. There are a lot of birds here now and we are on the less populated side of the water, But we still saw a couple of them. Sunday. 8. Today we went to morning worship at Capshaw church of Christ in Limestone county. They had an almost full building with over 180 people in attendance.   Darrell’s brother Glenn moving out of their house and packing these two pods full! Our second Saturday helping load for Glenn and Phoebe’s move to Tennessee. Having lunch at Mi Casa in Athens, AL after a morning of packing. Darrell, Glenn, Phoebe and me. They are leaving the area on Wednesday.  This little boy Quinn is so adorable! We are so glad to have a weekly call! Our third son Jeremy, Andrea and 2 year old son live in Maine since September. Saturday. 31. Helping Glenn and Phoebe continue loading their moving pods. We do a thrift store donation for Phoebe and do some shopping while there because it is a very clean place and everything is 50% off! I find 3 new pairs of underwear for like $3 and 3 packing cubes for another $3! Wow! I love a great find and a great deal! Visiting Owen. Here with his mommy, Erin. Sunday. 1. We got up about 6 am and realized that the electric was off. It had been off maybe an hour and was beginning to get colder in the house. This house has a lot of gaps and air leaks. The windows have ice on them. I texted our host about the electricity then called the power company. They informed me that this is a rolling blackout to take stress off of the power grid. It’s only supposed to be 15-30 minutes! Ha! It’s already been over 30 minutes. Thankfully the power came on about 8 am. (On Sunday I was talking to one of the older members and their power was out for 18 hours! It was a difficult challenge for them not having warm food or heat.)  Card party at Samuel’s house today. They call every Saturday, if possible! Saturday. 17. Today we went to Glenn and Phoebe’s house in Athens to help them load up their PODS for their upcoming move to Tennessee. They have a 3900 square foot house with a lot of furniture, appliances, and a garage of tools and yard working items. About 5 men from their church came, we came and our two sons Samuel and Wes came. Darrell worked inside the pod arranging items like a huge game of tetris.
