Goodbyes for Now.

Good-bye to Lainey the cat until we return in September for a 3 week house sit.

Goodbye to Darrell’s 92 (on April 18th) year old Mom, Shirley. She’s fragile and we love her, her family love and devotion, her faith in God, and her love of travel.

*to Darrell’s sister Cyndy and her daughter Kylie who live and care for Mom full time.

*to the Eastside church of Christ in Denton, Texas where we have many friends through our years of visiting them. Along with Andrea, a recently baptized christian worshipping at this church who I hope to reconnect with in September at our return.

My Special Moments and Other Activities This Week.

Loving on and stroking Lainey the Cat at our house-sit has been a nice slow down for me. She’s the friendliest and most chilled cat that we have had the privilege to care for since being house-sitters since 2022.

Saturday: Ladies Bible class with about 20 women. I went with Cyndy and enjoyed the study in 3rd John. Several went to lunch together afterwards.

An eye exam with pictures of my retinas which showed them in good health.

Texts with my friend Bonnie who has been in the hospital with heart issues and procedures. My prayers for her and gratitude that she’s continuing in the good care of doctors. She’s been moved to ICU on Friday and they are considering putting in a pacemaker on Monday. TBC.

Texts with my sister Linda while she’s in Florida on a weeklong trip with husband John and daughter Mindy.

Singing Happy Birthday to our son Eric on the 16th, his 41st! Enjoying knowing that he’s enjoying his family and being an amazing toddler dad while his wife is also working a great job and being an amazing mom too!

Some texts and pictures sent from our daughter-in-law Andrea about their family moving to Moscow and getting adjusted quickly to their new place.

Calls with my (best)friend Laura. Visiting and also helping me with some emotional work that we trade and encourage each other through our shared faith.

Tuesday evening through Friday: taking walks around Galveston, along the sea coast, through historic neighborhoods, viewing the architecture of old houses, learning about the town’s history at the county museum, enjoying eating at various restaurants, doing our regular morning workout routines and eating our favorite breakfast of Darrell’s delicious pancakes, berries, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, maple syrup, pork tenderloin and strong coffee.

Wednesday Night in Galveston we walked to Bible class at the church of Christ building, and met with about 20 christians who were reading and studying Matthew 27. We plan to go back on Sunday at 11am for worship.

Friday: Walked about 5 miles meandering through older Galveston neighborhoods. Went to ‘Local Dogs’ owned by Michael Cordray, a Magnolia Network person from the show "Restoring Galveston," who we saw there! We saw a couple of the oldest houses in Galveston that were prefabricated in Maine and sent here in 1837!!

Picture from August 2023: Our Oldest Son with His Family Bringing Their Daughter Esther Home From the Hospital. Owen Meets His New Baby Sister. Seeing our son being a father is a beautiful thing for us as we celebrate his Birth!

This Vintage Photo from June or July 1986 is a special memory of our son Eric at about 1 Year Old (15 months). We are in Haysville, NC Visiting with Darrell's Dad to the left. (His Mom isn't in this picture.) I'm in the middle and pregnant with 2nd Baby (Wesley) to come in September in Monterey, California. Darrell is Cooking over Charcoal to the right. Eric turned 1 on April 16th. Darrell was soon assigned to go to the Naval Postgraduate School to begin in August of 1986.

Some of My Difficulties this Week.

On Tuesday we finished with breakfast at our House sitting house. Something triggered my adrenaline and it was not slowing down. I was exhausted by this experience. Later on Friday, I was mostly recovered from this trigger, and my friend Laura was able to help me with  (EPT) Emotional Polarity Technique to help desensitize my emotional memory associated with that trigger!

We drove from Flower Mound to Galveston, Texas. We arrived at our one bedroom Airbnb and moved in. We walked 4 blocks to the beach which I wasn’t sure that I could do because of my adrenal burn-out. I made it and felt better for my walk! Yay!

I have been able to rest through the days here in Galveston and enjoy walking around, feeling the breeze, seeing the surf, enjoying the history and architecture of this town.

Lobster Bisque served in a heated bowl. We split a large multi-course dinner for an extra $4 charge! Worth it!

Snapper Filet dinner worthy of a cruise ship! A split dinner was plenty!

Evening Sky with an historic garden.

One of the tree scuptures of many that have been made since 2008's Hurricane Ike.

Lunch. Good Dogs!

Local Personality and Hard-working Business Man, Michael Cordray, with fans from Virginia. Andi and Jerry sat next to us at the community tables and we visited and made some traveling and retired connections! We are all fans of Michael and his wife Ashley, who is likely busy with all of their children! He has a great smile and is willing to stand for pictures.

One of the two oldest houses in Galveston. Prefabricated and sent from Maine in 1837!

Large Jasmine Vine with amazing heady fragrance!

Shaded neighborhood with more blooming jasmine!

The other oldest prefab home circa 1837. Erected and lived in by the man who started Galveston as a town.

Some of my Bible thoughts from recent classes and personal studies.

In Luke 23:35 at the crucifixion: “the rulers scoffed at him, saying, ‘He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!” The teacher of the class pointed out that Jesus laid down his life, being put to death by his own creation, and is dying for all of the peoples of every generation as the one sacrifice for all of the sins. For Christ to ‘save himself’ is contrary to everything He is hanging on the cross to accomplish!. In the previous verse 34, “Jesus said,’Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”

Isa 35:3 “strengthen weak hands and make firm the feeble knees” … NT reference: Hebrews 12:12 “therefore strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees”

Isa 35 is in my daily Bible reading this week. It is from this chapter that Hebrews makes reference to. There are amazing spiritual concepts through Isa 35 about who will see, follow, hear God, praise God, etc. I’m letting it just be in me that this is referring to the future changes coming to identify ‘God’s followers’ after the time of the cross of Christ. Question for myself: Am I following by ‘strengthening my weak hands and making firm my feeble knees’? Increasing (growing) my faith, understanding and belief in my attention to following Christ as my King and my Savior. Growing is a slow and constant process that I am engaged in now. It is for my eternal benefit and continuing life with my God.
