Saturday. 14. Arrive Stanley, Falkland Islands. Penguin Tour Off Road with Mike and Marta. Today we took tenders, small boats, from our ship to the port. It was a 25 minute ride to Stanley from where our ship anchored. The weather is sunny today. It’s fairly warm, especially in comparison to Antarctica. At the dock we meet our tour guide Tony. We walk about a block to our car. He begins telling us about the Falkland Islands and his life here. We have 1 ½ hours drive to Bertha’s Beach to see a Gentoo penguin nursery. We get to ask Tony all kinds of questions and we learn a few things. He moved here from Northern England with his then wife and 2 children. His former wife is from here. He has stayed because they are raising their two kids together and the grandparents are nice to have nearby. He likes living here and he has good employment. He says the standard of living is good. The Falkland Islands supply 20% of Europe's calamari, but he doesn’t eat calamari. We like calamari and get some later when we are back in town. Our penguin experience at Bertha’s beach was amazing. We spent a couple of hours up close enjoying watching the penguins. A few were walking back and

Sunday. 15.

Monday. 16. Nomad meeting. We met some nomads on the ship. One couple from Chicago was interested in getting a meeting together and he achieved it today. There were 8 of us and we sat discussing and exchanging information for about an hour. Both singles and 3 couple’s each had a unique story and mode of travel or ‘playing the game’ as Darrell and I call it. We exchanged contact info and picked up some bits of info and travel apps that we can test out to see how useful they are for us.

Tuesday. 17. Montevideo, Uruguay. We walked off the ship and around town. We walked through some streets that were different from our first stop. We enjoyed the architecture and had a coffee which wasn’t that good! Lol. Our expat Argentine friends on the ship said that Argentina does not have good coffee. Maybe that’s true of Uruguay also. At least not the coffee that we enjoy and it is more recognizable from Costa Rica and Columbia.

Wednesday. 18. Buenos Aires, Argentina. Flight to Sao Paulo, Brazil and then on to Brasilia, Brazil. Our flight was delayed and then we had to get a later connecting flight at Sao Paulo. We got in in very late to Brasilia. We took an Uber to Jeremy and Andrea’s apartment. We called Andrea and she came down to let us into their secured apartment building. We got to bed and slept well. It took me a couple of days to recover from the long trip. Then I was fine.

Thursday. 19. Wake up at Jeremy’s Apartment. It’s our second trip to Brasilia this year. We are familiar with the location and the way we can come and go from the apartment and walk around the neighborhoods. It’s a beautiful place. We are able to relax, recover from our plane flights and enjoy our family for a few weeks!

Friday. 20.

Nomad Notes: Travel days this week included getting off the ship and going to a Buenos Aires airport. This foreign airport was new to us. Getting to the airport was a bit stressful and then trying to negotiate the timing also had some stress for me. It turned out that our flight was delayed and we had plenty of time. For travel days, I carry comfort items with me like a neck support wrap for sleeping, noise-canceling headphones, peppermint oil, and extra pair of socks and a comfortable sweater or shawl.
