Saturday. 2. Darrell and I woke up around 5am. We got up and exercised as is our daily routine, then we had one of our current favorite ‘diet’ higher protein breakfasts: Darrell’s oat flour pancakes made with non-fat greek yogurt. Today’s pancakes were left-over and we reheated them. We top them with portioned fruit, nuts, seeds and real maple syrup. In a way we get our dessert and carbs into our day first! Each of us were in a different state of being packed and ready to check out and drive 6 hours to Panama City Beach. I loaded our last load of wash into the dryer and got it finished up for packing. I began to pack our unpacked kitchen items into our trunks and stacking crates. Darrell was back in the bedroom getting organized with his items. I started carrying the trunks and crates out to our truck and stacking them beside the doors for loading. The last item to pack is the cooler with our refrigerator items. I got this done and all the boxes and suitcases stacked beside the truck. It was a small workout to walk out the long sidewalk while carrying fairly heavy loads. I don’t always get to help here and I felt good about my ability to get this set up for Darrell to load. He is better at loading than I am and knows how to place the crates and wrap the tarp around them for some protection from water. I was happy that the weather is mild with no rain happening. It makes loading our items easier and nicer that they stay dry and that we stay dry too! Lol. We completed our loading and Darrell gets the first turn to drive. Today we planned to switch out driving about every 90 minutes. That way we get breaks and share the drive. This is a longer drive than we prefer, but we are looking forward to staying 3 nights before our next drive on Tuesday. We arrive to our Panama City Beach airbnb just before 5pm. It’s central time here so we don’t have any time adjustments to make. We move into our 2 bedroom house and look around. Then we drive back about a mile to a Publix grocery store. We eat a lite dinner at a Chinese restaurant there, then go get groceries for our stay.

Sunday. 3. We wake up early. The area is quiet and that’s nice. There is an adjustment to sleeping in a different house, a different place, a different bed, etc. We get up around 5:30am and do an exercise routine then dress and make breakfast. The time changed last night to ‘roll forward’ an hour. Church starts at 10am so we have plenty of time to relax, read and visit after breakfast. We arrived at the place that has this web site: panamacitychurchofchrist.com We enjoy meeting several people. I write their names down on a paper as my way to begin learning and remembering each person. There is a Bible class with today’s lesson on the temptation of Christ. There were several comments to go with the thought questions presented by the teacher Josh Simms (not sure about his name and spelling because I don’t always hear names correctly or ask for spelling). We then enjoyed a worship time with singing, communion and preaching of a lesson. We visited a little more at the conclusion then left for the afternoon. We went back to our airbnb and made sandwiches for lunch. We took a drive going west along the coast. We found a public parking lot and beach entry to take a walk along the beach. It was a beautiful breezy and not too hot afternoon! So enjoyable. Later in the evening we went back to the 6pm worship. I talked to a few more people and got their stories and then we were back to our little house for dinner, reading and bed.

Monday. 4. We are up early today but the sun is also up earlier. I have a plan to view the sunset at the beach and at a state park close to us. Darrell checks on the sunset time and we look forward to our sunset ‘date’. Mid-morning we search Google for a coffee shop. It’s farther than we want to walk so we drive to it, have americanos and sit on the breezy porch with an ocean view for an hour or more. We drive back to our house for rest and grilling out salmon at lunch time and computer work and reading. I am reading a diet recipe book that I found in our house’s kitchen. It is: “Now Eat This Diet” by Despirito. The recipes look fantastic and may get me thinking about trying something new.

Tuesday. 5. Wake up. Do ab routine exercises. Have Breakfast. Pack and load the truck. Head out on our 5 hour drive to Dunnellon, Florida for a 4 night stay. Our check in is after 3pm. We took turns driving in very rural Florida. We stopped in Perry for lunch and had a fabulous Mexican restaurant. After leaving the restaurant our truck wouldn’t start. Darrell said it was the battery. He looks up our roadside assist and gets on the list for the only person to come get our battery started in about 1 ½ hours! We take out our foldable chairs and sit in the shade next to our truck with the hood up. I check out the Walmart and give them a call to see about their batteries. They have it and will install at little or no fee. We finally get to Walmart and get our battery, but they didn’t put us in line when I called earlier. So, Darrell removes and installs the battery in the parking lot and we get back on the road! He’s got skills! Lol. We arrive to our airbnb in rural Dunnellon, Florida around 5 pm. We enjoy moving in and cooking dinner. The bed is so nice!

Dunnellon, Florida Diner Served Perfectly Cooked Liver!!

Wednesday. 6. We have a delicious breakfast because we are really great at fixing what we love! Then we leave the house around 10am to go to the local Rainbow Springs State Park. We take a nice walk that was built in the 1930’s and has nice man made waterfalls to enjoy. There is a place to swim in the spring waters. We walk through the woods and the rain begins. It’s warm and we get really wet in the hour or so until we get back to our truck. We dry some with an old car blanket and go for lunch at a local diner. We get liver and onions! Lol. I can’t remember the last time I ate this meal, but they cooked it perfectly and we both enjoyed it. It reminded me of my mother who is a Floridian and she would have loved this springs and the swimming and the liver! Thanks Mom for all the history from your life that you shared with me in love! This place is definitely old school Florida! A natural spring at 72 degrees, people swimming and playing all along the river, and a cafe with liver and onions. We are here at the beginning of the winter season which is less humid and more enjoyable than the sweaty hot summer! We went grocery shopping, listened to a medicare seminar that Darrell signed up for and then went back to our little house. We have one week until we get on our 35 day cruise! We are thinking about eating our food down and working toward our travel packing for leaving the US for 2 months that includes air flights in December and January.

Thursday. 7. Wow, November 7th already! We are hanging out on our screened porch today and working on our computers. Cooking at home here and resting in this very quiet place. We went for a late afternoon walk at Blue Run in Dunnellon. We saw on alligator back in the swamp just off our paved walkway. The back looks like an unrolled industrial tire. The gator was not moving and likely sleeping. I don’t want to be that close to a moving gator so I was fine viewing him this way! Lol.

Friday. 8. We slept later today, past 6am, than we have been able to for several days. It’s quiet and comfortable here. We have our fourth night tonight and check out tomorrow. Before breakfast we did our DDP lite 40 minute workout. Darrell made oat pancakes with greek yogurt for our breakfast. We sit out on our screened porch reading, talking and thinking about our upcoming drive to Boca Raton and our cruise beginning on Wednesday.

Nomad Notes:

In Panama City Beach, Florida airbnb Saturday night through Tuesday morning. We have an old SunPass transponder for Florida toll roads. I got online and updated my responder account with our South Dakota license info. We are in a quiet, clean cottage house with nice trees shading and blocking the street view.

Preview of our next two months out of the US.

I have a list of to-do’s while here and in the coming week. This blog is important for me to keep coming back to and adding my thoughts and diary entries little by little. I enjoy looking back at the over 200 entries I have logged in 4 plus years of being a nomad without a permanent house.

I’m thinking about leaving the US for 2 months beginning on Wednesday, November 13th. I’ve got to pack efficiently for every kind of weather from summer to winter! We will be storing our truck in Ft. Lauderdale and boarding the Sapphire Princess cruise to Antarctica. This is a 35 day journey ending in Buenos Aires, Argentina on December 18th. From here we fly to Brasilia, Brazil to visit our son Jeremy, daughter in law Andrea and 4 year old grandson Quinn at their apartment there. We fly back to the states January 15th. It is our second time to visit Jeremy’s family in Brazil and so we are familiar with the place and our situation there. It also covers christmas and new years for holidays. I’m pretty excited about our adventure.
