Saturday. 7. After breakfast Darrell finished his weekly Bible lesson blog and we took off for a morning walk at Swan Creek Parkway in Athens. It’s in the 70’s and the 1-2 mile pathway is shaded. Darrell worked his third day to complete building Eric and Erin’s wooden fence gate. I went shopping in Athens and played a few minutes with Owen and Esther. I got Darrell around noon as he was cleaning up the tools. We drove 10 minutes to our airbnb and made our usual salads for lunch. Darrell called and talked to his mother for about an hour. I did laundry, went grocery shopping, cleaned the bathroom, and several ‘everyday’ things.

Sunday. 8. Today was so beautiful! We had a very nice worship service today. There were several readings from the book of Luke about Jesus Trial, Crucifixion and Resurrection. In between the readings we sang songs that went along with the context. It was very nice. Darrell and I stopped and had a quick lunch at a little sandwich shop. We sat outside and I suggested that we go to one of our favorite walking paths in Elkmont. We did it. We walked 45 minutes out and 45 minutes back to our car. We got some ice cream in before leaving Elkmont too. We came back to our airbnb and dressed to go back to church for a prayer service. We stayed around chatting afterward. This congregation has many people we have known for years, but when they combined with another group we meet new people everytime we go.

Monday. 9. All day babysitting Owen and Esther. Darrell has a bit more to do on the wooden fence gate.

Tuesday. 10. All day babysitting again. This is a fun marathon for us. I’m so thankful that we are able to do it. I am very tired by the end of our day, and very happy too!

Wednesday. 11. An early call with my good friend Laura, and another call planned for tomorrow morning. A short afternoon babysit and an hour with Owen and Esther.

Thursday. 12. I was able to sleep until 6:20 today! Yay! This is huge for me. I do feel some congestion, but it clears as Darrell and I do our DDP Stand Up exercise routine. We have breakfast and then I am on Whatsapp doing a video call with my closest and long term friend Laura. Afternoon massage with Jennifer at Why Knot Massage on Limestone Rd. Book with Jennifer! She’s wonderful! Lol.

Friday. 13. Darrell has a liver scan today because he has a blood test for increased liver enzymes. Later in the day his doctor called to let him know that he has some gall stones without any pain or symptoms (yet) and he has NAFL (non-alcoholic fatty liver). He says he needs to lose weight and that a low carb diet is his suggestion for that. He also refers him to a gall bladder surgeon. Darrell starts researching diets and information online. I get him to download a food tracking app that I have used for several years called MyNetDiary. Grocery shop for our build your own sandwich buffet at tomorrow’s birthday party. I drove up to Tennessee to meet my friend Laura for lunch. She drives over from where she lives and we spend some time together at a restaurant visiting.

Nomad Notes: This is our third week of 4 weeks! Limestone County is a familiar place that we return to because we have 3 sons and grandchildren who live nearby between Huntsville and Athens. We owned a house near here in Madison for 13 years. We have many friends who we worshiped with and still continue to worship together when we are here. This week has 2 babysitting days, a 90 minute massage for me, online and in-person Bible classes, baking and planning for this coming Saturday’s birthday party at Eric and Erin’s, and more!

My Long Time Friend: Laura and I have been friends in earnest since my mother passed away in 2005. More than ten years before 2005, we attended EPT (Emotional Polarity Technique by: Dr. Annette Cargioli, my sister) classes to learn emotional healing together with my mother. During this time we often traveled hours together to and from classes growing our friendship and talking about our current Bible study questions together. She and my mother were considered closer friends having met through church in Kansas years before I met Laura. Mom brought both of us in to study EPT as it was getting started in the early 1990’s. We were all friends through the 1990’s because of our work within learning and supporting EPT and also because of our similar church groups. About 2007 Laura left the EPT professional organization that we had all been in. I stayed on in EPT leadership until I stopped work in late 2021 in my retirement. In 2005 Laura and I decided to grow our friendship through phone calls, visits and ongoing spiritual conversations and prayer together. I love my sweet friend dearly and so enjoy her! It is difficult to express how much I have learned and grown and enjoyed her through our years. Through the years we have often planned a shopping weekend together or a learning event or a soaking in the sun at some destination! It’s fun to meet up in different cities and explore and visit with my friend!

Massage Therapy in My Past: I was a massage therapist for 16 years. I went to school for massage when we lived in St. Louis and our youngest son Samuel began 1st grade. After I finished massage school and was certified in Missouri, Darrell left his job with TWA (TWA was going out of business and merged with American Airlines). Darrell’s next job was in Burlington, North Carolina with Labcorp. We moved our family there in 2001 and I began my first massage therapy business in North Carolina.
