Darrell's Brunch Sandwich at French Bakery in Brasilia, Brazil

Saturday. 13. Darrell and I did our morning routine with waking up before 6am, doing a recorded DDP yoga exercise routine, getting dressed for the day, cooking and eating breakfast. We spent the morning at the apartment. Visiting with Jeremy, Andrea and Quinn as they got up for the day. Around 9am the two of us took Quinn down the elevator with his scooter and helmet to his close playground. He rides his scooter on the sidewalks quite skillfully. It is slightly cool outside, maybe 68 degrees. It feels wonderful and a bit warmer in the direct sun, but there is plenty of shade furnished by the huge trees that were likely planted back during the building of this city in the 1960’s. We all went on a walk together to a larger French Bakery for a morning treat. Darrell and I ordered sandwiches and basically had lunch. We stayed at the apartment for the rest of the afternoon. Jeremy, Andrea and Quinn went to take care of a friend’s cat and then visit the city’s botanical garden. Later in the evening we played a round of Contract Rummy, one of our well-played card games. Darrell keeps our scores on an app and it’s kind of fun to hear the old scores! lol.

Sunday. 14. Our last Sunday at the Portuguese church. Our final closed highway street party. We all walked to the steak place and lunch outside. My Resting Pause breathing score is up to 21 today from 14 last Monday. The book explains a bunch of integrated solutions that will be addressed beyond this one breathing score and in the weeks to come in hopes of me getting better and snore-free sleep.

Monday. 15. Enjoying our final full day in Brasilia. Games and playground time with Quinn. Andrea took Quinn and went shopping. Darrell and I went to the big French Bakery and enjoyed sitting outside there. I had juice and he had Italian coffee and we ordered a basket of toast with butter. Andrea planned and shopped for dinner tonight of burgers, sweet potato fries and green beans. We all helped cook something, and we enjoyed our final delicious dinner together.

Tuesday. 16. Getting ready to fly out Tuesday night at 7pm. We get to Sao Paulo. We know that our flight is delayed by several hours. Darrell got us a hotel room at the Sao Paulo airport. Once we arrived to Sao Paulo, we had to follow a crowd to change terminals for our international flight. We went through immigration. We followed a 15 minute walk toward our gate. On the way we find a Delta help desk set up inside this very long hallway for our delayed flight. They help us getting our seats assigned and letting us know the current status of our flight. We ask the Delta help desk about our hotel and our walking time to it and if we can still hope to get about 3 hours sleep there. The help desk man tells us that our hotel is a great idea and it will be about a 10-15 minute walk for us back the way we just came. We turn around and walk quickly to the location of the hotel. When we arrive to the location, we cannot access the hotel unless we go a whole different way and back through immigration, etc! Doing this would burn up all our hoped for sleeping time. So we decide to walk back to our gate and as we pass the Delta help desk the people have left and it’s closed. They did give us dinner vouchers. So we go on to our terminal looking for a late night meal with our vouchers. We finally decided on a restaurant and sat there around midnight for about an hour. It was closer to 3am when we finally boarded our late flight and were on our way to Atlanta! Yay! We had paid for an upgrade for extra leg room. That was excellent and we had an empty seat between us. Oddly the outlets and tv were not working on our row or several of the rows around us. We slept reasonably well for an upright airline seat.

Wednesday. 17. Arrive back to the US! Atlanta and then on to Huntsville, Alabama by about 2pm Central Time. It feels like coming home even though we don’t own a house! Lol! We do have an airbnb rented for the weekend and we have stayed there in the past. We take an Uber to our son Eric’s house to get our truck and say hello. We go to the grocery and then move into our airbnb. We make dinner. After dinner we go to our local church and meet with our church family.

Thursday. 18. Visiting grandkids Owen and Esther. Enjoying our time relaxing at our airbnb. Plans with Samuel for a lunch meet up and using his house to store our truck boxes and trunks.

Friday. 19.

Nomad Notes:  Long air flight. Getting our truck at son Eric’s house. Seeing the US grandkids again!! Loading our truck for our Texas trip. Getting into our rhythm: travel, sleep, exercise, eating, living life.
