Saturday. 21. Today we enjoyed sleeping in until almost 6 am. Darrell was very tired and we skipped our morning exercise and went on to breakfast. We were able to go do exercises after noon. We spent the morning reading and Darrell worked on the computer getting his blog posting and Kenya email completed for the week. We had three phone calls today: Darrell’s Mom; Jeremy with Quinn, his 3 year old and Andrea our daughter-in-law; then Eric, Owen his 2 year old, and Erin and Esther (2 months), the rest of his family! I get really happy talking to our grandkids! Especially since they are at such sweet ages I enjoy singing a song with them. We talked about Halloween costumes and pumpkin patches for the kids. Also talked about Jeremy’s family moving to Brazil in Feb-March, and how we want to visit them there as we get details of what is possible for them and for us. We went off the ship and walked for about an hour today. We came back hot and sweaty! Our ship sails around 7pm today. We have 3 sea days on our way to Pago Pago, American Samoa on Wednesday.

Sunday. 22. Today we get up early and join in with worship online at our Alabama congregation that we were members with for many years. Today is my 59th birthday. Darrell declared that our Waterfalls tour in Tahiti this past week was my birthday gift! It was quite a spectacular gift as is this traveling life. I’m grateful for our time and adventures together. At dinner I got a picture with 3 women we have enjoyed this time with. The staff sang “Happy Birthday” to me and delivered an extra large chocolate cake to me. I took most of my cake and stashed it in our stateroom fridge.

Monday. 23.

Tuesday. 24.

Sailing into Pago Pago
Me following Ivy and Darrell on a hike in Pago Pago. The World War 2 hiking path.
A hard to find path was behind the water drum and under the tarp!
A dilapidated chieftans burial grounds
We are climbing higher
A beautiful jungle flower
These ropes were a great help in this climb
The tree roots were the steps
After a three hour intense hike, me and Ivy were really happy to be on the flat walk and almost back to the ship!
The noteable rock on the way into Pago Pago Bay

Wednesday. 25. Arrive Pago Pago. It’s pronounced Pongo Pongo as we were informed on the ship. Darrell and I decided on hiking from the ship. A woman in our Bible Class, Ivy from Vancouver, British Columbia, asked if she could go with us. It took us about 20 extra minutes to find the trail, but Darrell kept up until he knew that he had found it. It was over grown and steep. It was so steep at one climb that there were thick ropes to help us there. It was quite an exciting challenge and even for Ivy who also was pushed and challenged a bit more than normal. We got some beautiful forest pictures and stayed in the shade. Back on the ship we showered and recovered with lunch. Ivy came and found Darrell and me. She wanted to treat us to big ice cream sundaes. We split one and had more than our fill! She was sweet to treat.

Thursday. 26. International Date Line Crossing. We just skipped this day and proceeded to Friday! We are at least 18 hours ahead of of Central Time Zone.

Friday. 27.

Nomad Notes: I am in the the habit of kneeling to pray. It has become my habit for maybe 10 years (not sure how long) and I am now needing and wanting to acknowledge each day in this way with gratitude for my God and my savior. I consider this growth within myself.
