Saturday. 19. This is our 3rd to last Saturday in Alabama. We leave on September 5th by airplane to Portland, Maine. We are on a countdown with 2 ½ weeks to go. Today Darrell and I each attended a Bible class put on by some members from the Capshaw church we have been attending. And where we know several of the people. We made a breakfast casserole for Darrell to take to his breakfast group. I go to a later morning class with some ladies at a member’s house. We get back together for lunch and rest at our airbnb. Later in the afternoon we go to Eric and Erin’s to visit, have dinner and enjoy a time with a visit from Wesley, our 2nd son who lives in an apartment in Huntsville. He comes out to see his new niece and to have dinner together.

Sunday. 20. Church at Harvest and invited to lunch at a couple’s house. We arrive and enjoy meeting new people and some friends we have known for some years. I enjoyed the time together, the hospitality and kindness to include us and share with us. I liked seeing how Jean, the host, set up her house to serve lunch. She set up two large tables with chairs around. The ladies table was in the dining room and the mens table was in the living room. Both tables had a salad bar in the center so that you could serve yourself while seated. Everyone filed through the kitchen to get drinks and fill their plate with the main course: a local favorite of BBQ topped baked potatoes. One of the attendants brough cupcakes for dessert. We had a nice visit afterward with Jean and John and his 90+ year old parents. We will remember this time of sharing together.

Me and Laura. Long time friends.

Monday. 21. Today I drove to Fayetteville to meet my friend Laura. Laura and I have been friends for more than 20 years! We talk and visit regularly and follow along with each others lives. Dinner with Eric and Erin.

Tuesday. 22. Afternoon online class with our church friends in Tunbridge Wells, England.

Dinner with Eric and Erin. Dropped a care package by for my friend Darby as she is going for surgery tomorrow.

Wednesday. 23. Visit to friend Melanie in Hampton Cove. I enjoyed meeting her and her three daughters who I haven’t seen since the older two were babies. We discussed some Bible topics and teaching class and encouraging each other in faith and study. So sweet to be with her and her beautiful family.

Thursday. 24. Hour long phone time with friend Laura. Time helping Samuel, our son with his flower garden in front of his house. Laying weed paper and mulching. Cooking some chili for Samuel as he’s resting from being sick. Dinner with Eric and Erin.

Friday. 25. Hour phone time with friend Laura. Yes again! Lunch meet up with Alton and Diana and another couple (Bobby and Karen) who are their longtime friends, in Hartselle, Alabama. Then back to Eric and Erin’s for dinner and grandbaby time!

Nomad Notes. As we came through this week, we enjoyed having our airbnb that is quiet and cool with air conditioning. It is in the 90’s and so humid in this Alabama summer! We spend very little time outside except for short walks and always seeking shade! I spent some time sewing more projects and getting settled on my completing sewing and all of the fabric gifted to me by Dawn Rosengren, who is the design artist of this beautiful fabric.

Our countdown to September 5th is coming quicker as we have fewer days. My list of things to do is getting shorter. We have done some shopping for certain clothing items for our trip.

My to-do list for the coming week:

  1. Finish last two baby quilts. Clean up and return Erin’s sewing machine.

  2. Pack in a suitcase and a backpack for my 8 month trip that begins on September 5th. Going by airplane to Portland, Maine then to Vancouver, Canada, and then cruise ship to living in New Zealand for 4 months. Then returning by way of cruise to Tasmania and Australia and then cruise ship to the US in April 2024.

  3. Clean out and pack the storage supplies in our trunks and crates that are going to stay at Samuel’s house until next May.

  4. Clean our truck for Eric’s use. Show Eric how features of the truck and how the cover on the bed works.

  5. Decide on travel insurance or Med Jet membership and purchase.

  6. Dinner with our 3 sons who live in this area and Birthday gifts for September.

  7. Visit a couple more friends.

  8. Anything else I think of! lol.
