Saturday. 1.We wake up in Bridgeport, Nebraska at our small house airbnb. The drive yesterday was beautiful and scenic with mountains, rivers and lakes. We enjoyed arriving at this small clean house, walking to the local grocery store and cooking dinner in. We slept great!
On Saturday morning we enjoyed doing our DDP Yoga routine and then Darrell made us delicious pancakes. We hang out at this house until 10 or 11 am check out. Then we pack up and go our last few hours of driving to Rapid City, South Dakota.
Another beautiful drive! Closer to Rapid City we take the road into Cave of the Wind Park and enjoy the scenery. We arrive at our extended stay hotel, Sojourner’s. This place is a newish and refurbished hotel. They took two rooms and made it a mini apartment with a full kitchen. We like it. It’s clean and quiet. We unpack, rest and go over to Darrell’s brother and wife’s house. Steve and Janine have lived here for about 20 years and raised their 4 children here. Their daughter Sarah and her family are visiting from Utah for a few days. Janine’s mom Jackie is also living with them.
Janine cooked dinner for all of us! This is a feat considering that she is working in a kitchen that is being remodeled and is without a sink! She is pleased that her new dishwasher is hooked up just today and she is ready to use regular dishes in place of paper plates. This is also kind of a back and forth still with her using her bathroom tub as a makeshift sink being a walk around and down the hall to get there and back. She gets it all done with great hosting charm.
During our 6 night stay here we do all of the following and more: establish our South Dakota residency (get driver’s licenses, title and tag our truck, register to vote, change our car insurance location); visit with Darrell’s brother Steve and his wife Janine along with Janine’s mother Jackie (age 88!); Darrell preaches on Sunday in Steve’s place at Battle Creek Church of Christ (www.battlecreekcoc.org); Darrell works with Steve on their house remodel on new flooring in the living room and kitchen area; enjoyed lots of meals with family at home and out at restaurants.
