Saturday. 17. Today is my 139th Saturday since beginning this Nomad Diary. Wow! I am writing my memory of this day on June 26th. I’ve varied my format in this post. On this day I was on a 2 day trip to Miami with my sisters. We have the day to spend together and my Spirit Air flight is scheduled to leave at 9pm to take me back to Dallas. Because of time difference, Darrell is staying up late to come and get me at the Dallas airport at 11pm. I had a fun day with my sisters mainly taking a foodie tour in the Graffiti Art district. I learned some facts that I have mostly forgot. I do remember that we ate some great food, especially a fresh taco. We walked around with our tour guide and enjoyed our excursion in a very small group. It was hot and storms came that lasted through the late afternoon.
My flight got delayed a few times. I texted Darrell as he was trying to figure out his sleeping and waking up to come get me. My sisters took me to the airport in Miami around 9pm. My flight was scheduled for leaving at 11pm, but kept getting delayed. Thankfully we did get out of Miami around 1:30 am! We had a full plane with a lot of very tired passengers. I arrived Dallas at 4 am Sunday morning. Darrell met me there. The drive to our airbnb home was about 40 minutes. I got a shower and we stayed awake having an early breakfast.

Sunday. 18.- Friday. 23. This week is an enjoyable mix of living in our beautiful airbnb on a mini-ranch, being with Darrell’s 89 year old parents, seeing Cyndy and Kylie off on their road trip, spending time at church in Denton and a Gospel Meeting. I realize that the term “Gospel Meeting” is an old term. It is a church meeting that goes for several sessions on a Bible topic. This week’s topic is ‘Stop Worrying and Start Living’. The speaker did a great job to present Bible lessons with practical applications. We enjoyed our 5 hour long sessions over 4 days. We were all tired with our daily back and forth to the church building. Darrell’s Mom and Dad are both 89 years old. It is a lot of effort for them to arrange for this daily involvement. They loved participating and listening. It did tire them out too, but they kept on going. Danny and Rhonda, one of the couples at church met up with Darrell and I for lunch in Denton. The members were so friendly to us and we just really enjoyed our time studying and worshiping together.

Saturday. 24. Two Gospel Meeting Sessions this morning at the Denton church of Christ. Then a potluck lunch at Danny and Rhonda’s house. We went with some deviled eggs and a layered salad and stayed for a couple hours. Once we finished visiting and returning back to Cyndy’s house we stayed briefly before heading back to our airbnb. We have gone 4 days in row to the church building. Tomorrow, Sunday, is another day to church and out to lunch.
Sunday. 25- Monday. 26. Darrell taught the Bible class at church Sunday. We said goodbye to our church friends. We have been with this church for about 5 Sunday’s this year. We were here in March and again now in June. I have enjoyed the members here so much! People I am remembering: Bill, Steve, Don, Galen, Gerald, Danny, Mack, Johnny, Yvonne, Laurie, Donna, Linda, Rhonda, Phyllis, Jo, Pricilla, Elaine, Julie, and more! Darrell and I have our minds on our upcoming road trip. We are scheduled to leave town on Wednesday heading to South Dakota by Saturday.
Nomad Notes. I got a new eyeglass prescription, new glasses and sunglasses while here in Denton. They are feeling good. I also went for a stretching session at a chain business called Stretch Zone. It was a 30 minute bodywork session that I really enjoyed. I think of it as being bodywork between a chiropractic adjustment and a full body massage.
“How far out do you plan your calendar?” is a question we often get. Our calendar planning varies. Our current plan is as follows. It doesn’t fill in sequence of time. Usually the big dates and cruises fill in and then we build our visits of cities and family within the middle parts of the big plan dates.
Our timeline for making reservations for airbnb’s, and hotels can vary too depending on the location, the season, the availability of stays, and just our decision to book can lock us into a choice or leave a hole in our schedule. There isn’t a specific formula that we use.
We looked at the map and our July calendar to see how we might like to travel between South Dakota and Alabama. Here’s our current plan for the coming three weeks road trip.
June 28-July 1: Drive from Denton, Texas to Rapid City, South Dakota.
June 28th: Hotel Reservation in Fairview, Oklahoma
June 29th: Hotel Reservation in WaKeeney, Kansas
June 30th: To Be Determined Hotel Stay
July 1-7: Hotel Reservation in Rapid City, South Dakota
Darrell’s brother Steve and his wife Janine live here. He invited Darrell to preach on July 2nd. We have July 5th appointments for getting our driver’s licenses. We are also licensing our truck while we are here and getting a mail service as part of our South Dakota state residency requirements. SD is a nomad state and has favorable laws for being a resident here.
July 7-19: 2500 mile Road trip to: Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada; Kakabeka Falls, Ontario; Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada; North side of Lake Superior; Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Mackinaw City, Michigan; Athens, Alabama.
Continued plans through October. There are still details to fill-in!
July 19-September 5th In Alabama.
July 19-August 11: At Eric and Erin’s house with Owen, our grandson approaching 2 years old. New granddaughter’s birth in August. Getting body work repairs on our truck.
