Nesting Turtle in Our Yard in Denton, Texas |
 |
Denton, Texas Sunset from Our Airbnb on a Mini-Ranch |
Saturday. 10. Up early. Saw a nesting turtle out the kitchen window. The soil is sandy and the turtle is about 10 inches across the shell. She’s there for a long while and eventually covers her eggs and moves on. While here we have also seen 2 red headed woodpeckers plus one female in a hollow tree near our deck at the end of the house. There are at least 2 hawks hunting in the yard each morning. There are a few horses and cows. Around the two ponds we have also seen white and gray birds that are about 5 feet tall with beautiful feathers and curving necks. Today Jeremy (our 3rd son who lives in Portland, Maine) called with his 2 ½ year old son Quinn and his wife Andrea. We talk and catch up on what is happening with them. Quinn has started going to a day care while Andrea is working. On Fridays Quinn doesn’t go to daycare and Jeremy is able to work around his work hours so that he takes care of Quinn on Fridays. It’s sweet for me to know that they are good parents and enjoying this special time with their little one. Today I had phone calls with two of my girlfriends. I cooked dinner for us and the folks while Cyndy is out of town.

Sunday. 11. Church at Denton with the folks. Out to lunch with some from church at an old Denton BBQ restaurant, Metzlers. We enjoyed the get together and the good bbq. We were back to our airbnb by 2pm for and afternoon rest.
Monday. 12. I went for an eye appointment to get a new prescription and order glasses. I got that finished and my new glasses are supposed to be ready in about 10 days. I hope they work for me! Cyndy’s back and I cooked dinner for us. Then we head back to our house to relax for the evening. Darrell and I enjoy watching recorded tv shows. Currently we are watching some house renovation shows. We like to see the areas of the US that are being renovated and we also get to see the area and learn some architecture history. We also watch International Househunters and get overviews of countries and towns that we might like to visit.
Tuesday. 13. Today is Tuesday and we did our Ab routine which is usually on this day of the week. At 1 pm we join in the electronic Bible class with our friends in Tunbridge Wells, England. Today we covered Romans 5.
Wednesday. 14. Today I got a haircut. There was a bit of car maintenance too.
Thursday. 15. I packed a carryon backpack and flew out to Miami, Florida to see my two sisters. Darrell drove me about 30 minutes to DFW, the big airport in Dallas. I arrived a couple of hours ahead of my sisters. My nephew Reese who lives in Miami was able to pick us all up at the airport and we headed for a late dinner of Pho. Then we went on to his apartment where we are staying for a couple of nights.

Friday. 16. Before lunch Reese took us to a 1916 mansion and gardens in Miami. He got the tickets at the public library and saved us paying the entry fee! It was a really nice self-guided tour and beautiful house and gardens! After lunch we sisters went to a graveyard to inter our Dad’s ashes. Dad passed away in March of 2022. He has a spot next to our mom and her parents in a Ft. Lauderdale cemetery. We were there for a couple of hours and completed his burial.
Nomad Notes. This week was an interesting mix of flying 3 hours back to Ft. Lauderdale/Miami for a two night trip with my sisters. We planned this a few weeks ago, selecting our weekend to meet and purchasing our air tickets. I haven’t seen my sisters since March in 2022 at our Dad’s funeral. It was the same month that Darrell retired after I had retired in November 2021. It was our need to inter our Dad’s ashes in Ft. Lauderdale that brought us together on this trip. Our mother’s ashes were interred in 2005 next to her mother, father and maternal grandmother. When that trip occurred, our Dad purchased a double headstone with his name and birthdate engraved. We were completing our family plot and his final resting place.
There are four siblings including me. Our brother, Wayne is out of the country this week. He’s aware of what we are doing and we are sharing the cost equally between the four of us. We all loved our Dad and appreciate the good man and father that he was.
I purchased a ticket on Spirit Airlines. This is a low budget airlines that I have never flown before. There were good and not good things about my experience. I bought an unassigned seat at the lowest cost possible. My seat was the very last row next to the windowless wall. My seat was a full 4 inches narrower than the two seats in my row. Also my under seat storage space was inches narrower. There is also no tilt in the back row seats. I traveled with my noise-cancelling headset and it was comforting! I also had my neck wrap to help with stabilizing my neck while napping and sitting upright.
All in all the flight was fine although a bit bumpy at times.
