#84 June 11, 2022 Iceland excursions: Reykjavik, Isafjordur, Akureyri. A Sea Day. Shetland Islands. Another sea day. Cobh(Cove) and Cork, Ireland.

Saturday Activities.  Two days ago our ship diverted our path to the English Channel to avoid a storm.  We missed our Cork, Ireland stop and are having a sea day today.  We are sailing by the white cliffs of Dover and scheduled to arrive Falmouth on Sunday morning.

This morning Darrell and I got up before 6am to do our DDP yoga routine in the gym before the ship classes begin at 7am.  We had our last 8am Bible Study finishing off chapter 5 of John with a nice group of studiers.  Some of our group will continue for the next 6 sea days during our Norway cruise.  Others are leaving the ship on Monday in Southampton.  Our cruise has had an ongoing issue with mild cases of covid and any number of crew and passengers isolated in their cabins for days until a negative test is obtained.  The passengers that are staying on for Norway, including us, had to get a covid test today.  We were negative, but we are beginning to hear about some who are positive and now relegated to their rooms.  All of the incoming passengers will board after presenting a negative test.  We are at a 'level 2' on the ship, and we are wearing masks at inside venues, not including our own cabins.  Also the crew must serve us at buffets or drink stations.  There is also limited hours on the laundrymat and bars are closed with all drinks being ordered to where the person is.  We spent lunch with our friends Tricia and Gary who are leaving the cruise at Southampton for a time in England.  We are resting in our room between eating times.  This evening we plan to have dinner in the restaurant and be seated with random cruisers and get some life stories and exchange information and experiences.  One of the most interesting couples we met are 89 and 92 years of age.  They told their separate stories of leaving Korea during the war and coming to the US for college, then meeting each other during their college years in North Carolina.  They were a lovely and positive couple for the goodness in their lives being a blessing from God.
Week's Highlights.
Sunday. Arrive to Reykjavik, Iceland after 5 sea days from Halifax.  We booked an excursion to go to the Viking museum and some geothermal vents. The weather was around 50 degrees F.

View from inside the bus.  Reykjavik, Iceland in summer, started the day with sunshine and by midday,  there was heavy cloud cover

Monday.  Isafjordur, Iceland.  We walked the small lovely town and about 2 miles to a waterfall.
Tuesday.  Akureyri, Iceland.  We took a small bus tour to see the sights, went through a 4 mile tunnel in a mountain.  Saw lava fields, beautiful scenery and I swam in a hot pool.  Our guide kept us informed and told us many things about Icelanders and the culture.
Wednesday. Sea Day
Thursday.  Lerwick, Scotland in the Shetland Islands.  We walked around the town viewing the beautiful architecture, and we took a bus tour to some ruins that show being inhabited for a full 5000 years.  The viking dwellings at this place were more recent and introduced corners into the houses that were normally circular.

Friday. Sea Day
Nomad Notes.  We have met many people on this ship who live nomadic type lives.  Some are on the move constantly and some own homes in two or three places and rotate between their homes.  We are learning all kinds of things from other nomads.  We have been shown some useful apps and told about lovely places to visit on our journey, and what kind of tickets we can watch out for and possibly save us some money during our length of stay in the UK.
