#80 May 14, 2022 Nomad Diary Arrive Ft Lauderdale via Caribbean Princess Ship. Stay with Family Friend Next 12 Days Until Next Cruise May 26th.
Saturday Activities: Arrive Ft Lauderdale. Leave the ship. Taxi to friend's house for our 12 day stay thanks to her urging and hospitality toward us.
I rested today with a nap. Darrell and I can't get our truck until Monday morning, so we walked to the grocery and picked up some of our usual items: eggs, sourdough bread, cheese and crackers, a can of chicken noodle soup for Darrell, fish taco makings, a lemon to juice for homemade Italian dressing, lettuce, radishes, tea and coffee. Our host is supplying many more details and items.
Week's Highlights:
Sunday: at Port Armador in Panama City waiting for our turn to go through the Panama Canal on Monday. We did our daily routine: exercise routine, breakfast, then our Sunday worship together, and then waiting to ride a tender to land.
Monday: Transverse the Panama Canal for 11 hours.
Tuesday: a sea day with ship activities. A Bible class led by an 87 year old Chinese man from San Francisco every sea day. Good food. Trivia. Walking around, up and down stairs. Pool time. Show time with amazing talent.
Wednesday: In Aruba, a Caribbean Island good at growing cactus. We visited an Aloe factory and farm.
Darrell and Tricia, Australian friend, trying to work out the bus schedules and our plotting for the day.
One of 3 restaurants open in San Nicholas along with a walk through Art district.
Sculpture in San Nicholas, Aruba.
Painting on concrete wall.
We rode 45 minutes on a city Arubus to get to San Nicholas. .Floating Islands desserts with our dinner friends Joyce and Dale. We randomly were seated together for dinner 3-4 times. That equals 6-8 hours of socializing.
Loads of desserts ordered and eaten by these two!
The Piazza and center of the ship where guests have gathered to watch the egg drop competition. Participants bring a raw egg in it's shell wrapped up to drop 3 stories and see if it can survive. One out of 5 survived this episode.
Friday: Our final sea day, trivia game with our group, visit with Australian friend Tricia, fancy dinner and dessert, and evening show. The entertainer had such an amazing resume and introduction I thought it was a joke! But it was no joke. His biggest hit was "Cherokee Nation", by Paul Revere and the Raiders of which he was one. The show speakers were too loud so I covered my ears to enjoy the show.
Nomad Notes:
About a month ago we left our truck in longterm parking. Our chosen truck keeper put a battery tender on our vehicle and stored it in an enclosed facility. The business is only open Monday through Friday so we must wait until Monday to get our truck. Then we are preparing for our next adventure which leaves Ft Lauderdale on May 26th for 34 days to Iceland, Norway, and finally Southampton, England for our 4 months stay there.
