#72 March 19, 2022 Nomad Diary: Visiting Family. Leaving Donna's Place After Dad's Funeral
13 years ago Dad met Donna online in Indiana. She came to his family beach trip. They married within days! Richard's granddaughter Dana in picture.
Monday we packed up our truck and drove to Indianapolis. About 9:30 in the morning, my sister calls me to let me speak to my Dad as he is dying. I'm crying and telling him how grateful I am that he's my Dad and has loved me and my family. He passed at his home with his wife nearby and my sister was there too.
Their ceremony (2009) done by my brother Wayne at my sister Annette's Chiropractic office in Fishers, Indiana. Top picture is Paige, Annette's oldest.
In the evening we arrive at Donna's house and my sisters and their husbands are there for dinner along with some visitors.
Tuesday Darrell and I begin helping Donna clean out Dad's items that she will not need.
Wednesday was the funeral. There were about 100 visitors and 20-30 family members. Many of us went out to lunch afterwards hosted by my brother in law John.
Thursday-Saturday morning Darrell and I continued to clean out Dad's items from the house. He was a tall man, 6'6" and his clothing is a unique size! Some was useful for a tall, young friend and the rest went to a mens shelter in Indianapolis. We also took a load of items to Goodwill. Since my Dad was a preacher, he had some old books and all of his handwritten sermon outlines in three ring binders. One of our sons wanted these items and we packed them to take back to Alabama with us. Each morning we got Donna and went out to breakfast to a different restaurant. We had a nice time together and she thoroughly enjoyed our help.
A couple of nights friends or neighbors brought over food and meals. On Friday night, John took us out to dinner with Donna and his daughter Mindy's family.
Saturday Activities: We packed and left after lunch. We drove to my brother Wayne and wife Chris' house in Connersville, IN. We stayed until Monday morning, and drove back to Alabama and the airbnb that we left just a week earlier.
At Wayne and Chris' house, we each set up our pc's at their kitchen table and began plotting our June cruise in Norway together. We were researching our excursion options and making our selections. We discovered that they have a different way of sightseeing than we do. That being said, we agreed that the cruise was a good place to travel together and to make differing excursion plans as best suited each of us.
Nomad Notes
This past week there was a lot of eating at restaurants. Since living this Nomad life for over 18 months now, we are getting more used to eating at restaurants as a regular event rather than an occasional treat. I gained weight (2#) during the last week, but I also gave myself permission to not think about it with the funeral going on.
I didn't drive any this week or take many pictures.
