#69 February 26, 2022 Our Final Saturday Before Darrell's Retirement
Adorable picture of grandson Owen with his Dad's comments.
Highlights this past week...I have happily visited our grandson Owen a couple of times. He lets me put him to sleep and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I visited a young woman friend who I've known since she was in High School. She's grown now with two small children. We had a wonderful visit as I enjoyed her hospitality and knowing that she's teaching her children about Jesus and giving them and herself excellent care. My Monday's colonoscopy went easier than I expected. I was knocked out for the entire procedure. Within the week I was called with my lab results. I have H pylori and was recommended to take a two week course of antibiotics plus two more prescribed medications. I told the nurse that I would not be likely to follow through with this treatment, and asked if there was any other way to get rid of H pylori. She said there was no other way, and it was up to me whether I wanted to do this recommended treatment or not.
Saturday Activities...we slept in until after 6am! We did a morning DDP yoga routine and then made breakfast. Okay, Darrell made coffee and french toast from our drying sourdough. I cut up strawberries and bananas and made myself a side of over-easy eggs. I cleaned up the dishes, washed the sheets and made the bed. Darrell called his Mom and we caught up with the week. I found a study online that erradicated H pylori in all of the participants using primarily white vinegar. It's published online, dated 2015 under this title: "An Alternative Approach for the Rising Challenge of Hypertensive Illness via Helicobacter pylori Eradication" by: Nasrat and Nasrat, on ncbi.nim.nih.gov. One of the things the nurse told me was that to retest for this infection it requires a fecal sample, and I found out that there is also a breath test. Both tests are used with the participants in the study. I have decided that this is a good protocol for me to use because it doesn't create a bigger problem that the antibiotics can do. The antibiotics, in my opinion, are big guns that do not work simply or perfectly.
Got my vinegars and senna (used in the study), and oregano oil capsules which was in another study of essential oil treatments. Oregano was 2nd to cedarwood. Since it comes in capsules, I simplified my compliance.Nomad Notes: This is Darrell's final Saturday before his retirement. He spent a little time collecting his equipment that he will be turning in next Friday morning as his final working act. Then he was able to discuss with me some of his minimal packing ideas that are getting closer as we are going to sell our car in a week or two and just have our truck. We have a few items to give to Eric and Erin and then to Glenn and Phoebe, and then we will go by a thrift store and donate whatever is in our car that we won't be using or saving to use for now.
Items in our Rav4 for giveaway and donation. We went to a downtown restaurant called Canadian Bacon. They are just open until two, bake their own breads including bagels, sourdough and brioche. We ordered sandwiches.
Darrell got turkey on brioche with a side of tomato soup.
I got a bagel with egg, bacon, ceese and avocado. Delicious. Mine was better. And a side of fruit.
We ate in the car because the place was filled.
Nomad Notes: After visiting Eric, Erin and Owen we went by Glenn and Phoebe's, then took a tea and pastry break at Panera's. Next we went to REI, a store that specializes in outdoor activity equipment and clothing. I purchased their rolling duffel as my new suitcase. It's smaller than my current suitcase, but I am hoping that I can reduce my packing and get this to work. We got a virtual from Jeremy, Andrea and Quinn who is interacting really well considering that he's growing up with so many virtual experiences.
My old red suitcase is about 30% larger than my new REI rolling dufflebag. The neon and black bag is Darrell's rolling duffel that is slightly narrower than my new bag.Virtual call with Quinn and Jeremy and Andrea. We dropped off items at a local thrift store, and headed back to our airbnb. Darrell has his birthday gift on order, a new kindle to replace his current worn out one. For dinner I made egg drop soup by Darrell's request. Doing this finally used up the big head of Napa cabbage that I brought back from my Florida trip. We also had some fancy cheeses, crackers and the remaining half of my lunchtime bagel sandwich.
Darrell in our 5 points airbnb. The big monitor against the wall is going to his brother Glenn.
