#67 February 12, 2022 Morning Stuff. Lunch out with Son, Samuel. Visit and Babysit with Owen, 5 months.
This is our last Saturday in Meridianville, Alabama. Next Saturday is moving day. Our morning routine is to do a selected DDP Yoga routine in our pj's on our yoga mats. This morning was our easiest routine: Energy, lasting 23 minutes. We do two harder routine days and then an Energy routine as our rest day. Darrell made really delicious gluten free pancakes, bacon, and dark coffee. I set the table with fresh berries, banana slices, walnuts, black walnuts for Darrell, and real maple syrup. We feasted before 8am.
Flowers that I brought back from Destin last week next to a valentines from Quinn, our 17 month old grandson.Darrell calls his mom Shirley around 8am. They visit by phone for as long as they like, and get caught up on everyone in the family and any news as well as just talking about everyday cooking or shopping.
Saturday at our airbnb dining room table doing personal finances, checklists, and insurance study.I gathered the used sheets and towels and did that weekly laundry. Besides this chore, earlier in the week, I had shopped and secured two of our upcoming airbnb's for April in Vancouver, Washington and May in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I also had decided on and purchased airline flights for our April trip to Vancouver (Portland, Oregon) and then to San Francisco on April 23rd. We also booked our 3 night stay at a boutique hotel in San Francisco on Booking.com. We paid about 50% of the going rate on that same hotel's web site!
Our youngest son Samuel met us for lunch at Charritos, a small Mexican restaurant in Providence in Huntsville near where I used to work.Darrell's having a chicken quesadilla and I'm having a chicken taco. I sent my guacamole side back because it's overpriced for the amount. Just say no to any extra guac side at this place! Everything else is good. We have often ordered 1/4 roasted chicken dinner. One of our faves at this place. We left our house about 10:30 to meet up with Samuel for lunch at a small Mexican restaurant that we enjoy. After lunch, we headed for Eric and Erin's for a visit and late afternoon babysitting date with Owen. On our way we stopped at Wal-Mart to look at the selection of rolling dufflebags. I found that they had several and we wanted to look at what was there, knowing that these are generally the low end of this kind of luggage. We were looking to see the weight and the sizes, and to discuss how we are going to pack for our 6 months out of the US. We stood in the store looking at each model and size while discussing our thoughts on what we each thought we would need for space, and what we could or couldn't carry through our several months in England and travelling by train and bus.
Virtual call with Quinn and his parents, Jeremy our 3rd son and Andrea. As children, Jeremy and Samuel often shared a room. I remember the last book I ever read to them for fun was Holes. They were good readers but I didn't want to stop.We didn't purchase any new luggage yet. We have some older pieces that we could possibly make work for us. We decided to table our current discussion until March, keep thinking about it, and then get into the technical aspects once we are past Darrell's last day of work on March 4th. One thing is for sure and that is that we will use packing cubes. We currently have several of these of various sizes. The cubes really help with organizing and fitting items into whatever bag you take.
Owen, about 5 months. We arrived early afternoon to Eric and Erin's. We visited with them for a couple of hours and then they went out for dinner while we played with Owen. He was all in on playing and we took turns keeping his attention. Darrell was funny making mouth and lip noises to entertain Owen.
We left their place around 6pm and went to Smashburger for dinner because we were hungry. Then we stopped at the grocery and shopped for a few items that we needed.
One of our perks in this neighborhood is that across the street from us is a retired couple who have chickens for their hobby and they give away eggs! We have bought too many eggs before visiting them and really getting to know they. They are the kind of neighbors that make this place so wonderful! Mike is retired Army and Connie just wanted 6 chickens! Well, that's turned into many, many more plus geese, ducks and rabbits. They were enjoyable to visit with and hear about their courtship, their life of over 50 years of marriage, and their recent run in with a predatory owl in their backyard.
This coming week, I have a friend from church who is on hospice after just a few weeks of being diagnosed with brain cancer. She and her family are in my heart and prayers. This coming week, I hope to visit little Owen more and I have a lunch date planned in Shelbyville, Tennessee with one of my best girlfriends of 20 years, Laura!
