#49 October 9, 2021 Move to Gurley, Alabama Airbnb. Uncle Samuel Meets Baby Owen, and More.
Oldest son, Eric introducing Owen to his brother Samuel. This is Samuel's first time to hold a baby and he took to it pretty good! It makes my heart so happy to see my sons as young men taking care of the little ones!
Darrell and I got up early because we have a habit of waking up at 5:30. Today was our 'moving' day from our Harvest, Alabama airbnb to our Gurley, Alabama airbnb. We wanted to get the truck packed up early so Darrell could go at 7:30 to have breakfast with the men from church. While Darrell went to Athens, I met up with Samuel for breakfast at Paneras and then to meet baby Owen. I stayed a little while longer at Eric and Erin's and then met Darrell for lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant. After we lingered there, we drove our two vehicles towards Gurley (a 50 minute drive) and stopped to shop at Duluth Trading Company on the way. After that excursion, we drove on to Gurley and sat in the local coffee shop pictured below, until our check in time at 3 pm.
Once it was time, we drove 10 minutes up Keel Mountain to get to our 1 bedroom brick house. On this property it is the 'Granny Cottage' with the big house right next door. We stayed here in July and we really enjoyed it, so we came back again.
The picture below is of the comfy bedroom at our Gurley airbnb. It is so quiet here! We both sleep so well with the quiet and the dark. Quiet and dark cannot be over-rated! These qualities are unique to many travel situations, and that is why travelers like us have an eye mask and ear plugs ready for better sleep. On cooler evenings we open the windows for fresh air too! Ahhh.
We discovered that it was so much easier for us to get settled by knowing where everything was and already being familiar with the rules and the host. We got unpacked quickly and were able to relax as the day had tired us.
This screened in porch is our favorite feature of this property. We do our DDP Yoga each morning out here with the fresh air and sunrise! It's exhilarating!
Here is a picture of some of our boxes unloaded from the truck.
While I am at the end of a 3 week special elimination diet, I ate these Cauliflower Chips during my diet. I really liked them to give me a crunch of crackers and saltiness satisfaction. My chips have tahini and date syrup drizzled on them with hemp seeds sprinkled on top. Sometimes I sprinkle it with cinnamon too. Besides really enjoying these chips, I have also discovered that I really enjoy eating sweet potatoes. I transformed from eating them with butter every time to just topping it with fresh lemon juice and salt. So eating vegetables for 3 weeks on end took some agreement and decision on my part, but every day was easier. I made it through and even though I slowly added the eliminated foods from my diet, not perfectly, but I did it. I still am choosing to eat veggies for breakfast about half the time, and I still am using protein shakes as a snack between meals.
Picture of our weekly video call with grandson Quinn and his parents. They are enjoying their parenting and this brings out that happy place in my heart.
