#32 June 12th, 2021 Driving from Omaha to West Frankfort, Illinois
Saying goodbye is both easy and hard. My face is set toward my day and my direction. My gratitude for the time with family and friends who are familiar and full of memories and joys.
For our week in Omaha we stayed at Darrell's older brother's house. Jeff and Gaye have hosted us many times in over 20 years. Their front steps remind me of putting our kids there and getting a group picture. Their 4 boys and our 4 along with other cousins were playmates through childhood. Holidays were often celebrated with a trip up from Kansas City to Omaha. Gaye cooked and prepared treats and meals. She still does. She and Jeff have an open door to many international people as he is a minister and they work to teach and help. Tony, their 31 year old was living there with them as he's in between jobs. We learned about each other's lives this week, and where we are now, and what is going on with each of our sons.
Tony sings in an annual chorus, and had a group of singers in one night to practice their new songs. Another night we had a Bible study with the church members. One of the families at the church invited us all over for dinner on Friday night. It was a treat to have a special homemade meal centered around their clean diet plan: "Thin and Healthy Mama".
The weather has been hot in the 90's, and humid! I dealt with a health challenge by finding and getting a chiropractic treatment. Darrell worked remotely Monday through Friday.
We spent Saturday driving and eating at restaurants. We traded driving to break up the monotony. We stayed at a cheap, yes cheap hotel, as our finale of the long day! Lol. Gaye asked me if I was tired of living out of a suitcase. I hadn't really thought of it until she asked. I am looking forward to staying for a month and unpacking my suitcase beginning on Sunday night!
Stopped for lunch in Platte City, Missouri where we used to live near in 1990-1997
