#31 June 5, 2021 Week in Wyoming: Yellowstone Eastgate, Cody, Thermopolis, Casper, Cheyenne.

Sunday, May 30-Mon 31. Cody,  Wyoming. Staying in airbnb home on 13th street.  Love the wide streets, low traffic, wild west history.  Met friendly people at church. Ron, a member, does the chuckwagon cooking demo at the museum. Monday we walked to the museum and spent about 5 hours.
Tues Jun 1: drive to Thermopolis, the largest Hot Springs in the World they say. Learned that Wyoming state parks are free. A free 20 minute plunge into two hot spring fed pools. Visited Wyoming Dinosaur Center and learned that this is a huge digging place. The displays were amazing! Dinner at the local Mex restaurant and it was better than ordinary.
Wed Jun 2: drive to Casper included a scenic byway with astounding red rock mountains and rainbow strata mountain sides; a river canyon.
Thurs Jun 3: Morning in Casper. Eggingtons restaurant about 10-20% less cost than something similar in Huntsville, Alabama. Go to hilltop overlooking the city and toured the Trails Center.  Learned that starting in the 1840s 4 trails to the west converged here: Oregon,  California,  Mormon, and Pony Express. Later the railroad carried the people westward. Drive to Cheyenne with two more scenic byways and gorgeous scenery, high mountain snow, and Moose sightings.
Fri Jun 4: spending Thur and Fri nights in Cheyenne.  Walked around downtown. Visit to the Wyoming museum and the old Governors house, walk by State capital and old buildings including depot. Clean town with roomy streets. Went to a private museum with over 100 horse drawn carriages including a library one, an ambulance,  hearse, fuel, ice, and fire department.
Sat Jun 5: Drive to Omaha, Nebraska. Took Highway 30, the Lincoln highway that parallels the big highway 80, and goes through small towns. I looked up several town names while we drove and read the histories of their starts usually in the post-civil war with land grants, and a train close by. Dinner in Weston at the Ponderosa Saloon. Had chef made meals at good prices. Arrived to Darrell's older brother's house around 6pm. They've lived here about 25 years. Back then we lived a short drive down to Kansas City. We visited often and our 4 sons and their 4 sons played together and we took family pictures on the steps in front of their house. Now, it has been years since our last visit, but we are so happy to catch up on what's going on as we get to stay through this week!
